Annual Business Meeting

1. At approximately 1:00 PM, President Frans van Liere opened the meeting by welcoming the Association to Nashville and to the luncheon meeting and thanking our hosts at Vanderbilt, especially Lynn Ramey, for conducting an excellent conference.

2.  van Liere asked the nominating committee to distribute ballots for officers and the Executive Council to the membership.  Voting continued during the next stages of the meeting.

3.  The 2009 SEMA Prizes were awarded to Lorraine Stock (Teaching Prize), to Jo Koster (Scholarship Prize), and to Elizabeth Dachowski (First Book Prize).

4.  Lynn Ramey reported that no major problems had developed for the some 200 attendees of the conference.  van Liere called upon Matt Gabriele to invite the Association to the 2010 Conference in Roanoke, to be jointly hosted by Roanoke College and Virginia Tech.

5.  Tom Farrell presented the Treasurer's Report, somewhat reformatted from previous years in order to highlight anticipated expenses.

6.  Dan O' Sullivan, editor of Medieval Perspectives, announced a tentative agreement to publish MP online through EBSCO Host.  Cessation of print publication is not contemplated at this time.  The Council endorsed his work in this area.  Dan also reported that he now has material from the unpublished volumes 18 (2003), 22 (2007), and 23 (2008), as well as the current Volume 24.  He is still evaluating the best way to make use of that material with his printer.

7.  Several members announced upcoming events.

8.  van Liere announced the election of Lynn Ramey (Vanderbilt) as the incoming Vice-President of the Association, and of Kurt Boughan (The Citadel--History), Jo Koster (Winthrop U--English), Meredith Reynolds (Francis Marion U--English), and Connie Scarborough (U of Cincinnati--Languages) as members of of the Executive Council.  He noted that at the end of the business meeting, his term expired and Trish Ward of the College of Charleston became president.  Ward asked the newly constituted Executive Council to remain for a brief session after the luncheon.

9.  The meeting was adjourned at 2:05 PM.
